The Montauk Historical Society presents the inaugural Great Eastern Music Festival at the world-famous Montauk Lighthouse, located at the easternmost tip of Long Island. The idyllic setting provides 360 degree views of Block Island, the Atlantic Ocean and beyond.  The festival will feature an eclectic mix of Americana, Roots, and Bluegrass music, presented on two stages, with craft food + beverage, vendors and more. Proceeds from the event will fund ongoing maintenance of the Lighthouse and the maintenance of the retaining wall on the ocean side.

The Montauk Lighthouse was built from 1792-1796 and commissioned by George Washington in 1797. The Lighthouse Committee of the Montauk Historical Society is dedicated to the protection, preservation and educational development of this national historic site. Through programs, exhibits, publications and special events, the story of this site will be conveyed to the public.

How do I purchase tickets?

What should I bring?

  • A reusable container for water (we will have a filling station)

What about food?

There will be plenty of food available. We have picked some of the best food trucks and vendors. To accommodate special diets, you may bring food into the venue in small, soft sided coolers. Please, no glass or alcohol or hard coolers.

What’s the parking situation?

In order to park in the main lot at Montauk State Park (aka the Montauk Lighthouse) and at Camp Hero State Park (​shuttle provided), every vehicle will be required to pay the state parking fee of $8​​.​ This parking fee only applies during the hours of 8:00am to 4:00pm.​ However, there is no fee​​ to park at Montauk Public School and Gosman’s Dock (shuttle​s​ provided​ at both locations​). Please note that parking in all lots is on a first-come, first-serve basis. If possible, we encourage you to use Uber, Lyft or other Taxi service (668 Mtk Taxi LLC/631-668-1040, Gigi Tax/631-702-5821, Montauk’s Best Taxi/631-668-8444, Ditch Plains Taxi/631-668-5716).​

Where are the designated lots?

  1. Montauk State Park, 2000 Montauk Highway, Montauk, NY 11954 – This is the main lot associated with the Montauk Lighthouse and adjacent to it.
  2. Camp Hero State Park, 1898 Montauk Highway, Montauk, NY 11954 – Parking in this lot requires taking a shuttle bus (which will be provided) to the Montauk Lighthouse festival grounds.
  3. Montauk High School, 50 Dorset Drive, Montauk, NY 11954 – Parking in this lot requires taking a shuttle bus (which will be provided) to the Montauk Lighthouse festival grounds.
  4. Gosman’s Dock, 500 West Lake Drive, Montauk, NY 11954 – Parking in this lot requires taking a shuttle bus (which will be provided) to the Montauk Lighthouse festival grounds.

 

What time does the festival start / end?

Gates open at 9 AM, festival starts at 10 AM and ends at 7:30 PM.

 

Are tickets available to purchase at the “door”?

Of course, as long as they haven’t sold out!

 

Can I bring my kids, and do they have to pay?

Yes. Children are welcome and admission is free for those 6 and under with an accompanying adult. There is a reduced price of $25 for kids ages 7-12.

 

Are cameras allowed at Great Eastern?

PERMITTED: Polaroid, SLR, point and shoot, pocket and phone cameras for personal use. Fan photography is limited to personal use. Selling photos is prohibited.

NOT PERMITTED: Drones, Professional rigs, Long-range lenses, Flash photography, tripods and video of any kind. Photographers with intent to publish must obtain a media pass in advance of the festival.

 

What if it rains?

The show will go on! This is a rain or shine event. There will be a large circus-like tent near the main stage for sun and rain protection. This is available on a first-come, first-serve, so show up early. If it rains though, assume you’ll probably get wet, so either way, you’ll have an unforgettable experience at Great Eastern.

How do I inquire about volunteering?

Email us at festival@montaukhistoricalsociety.org. Great Eastern volunteers enjoy free admission in exchange for working as event staff. Please note that volunteers will primarily work outdoors, in all weather conditions, and will be asked to stand for extended periods of time. We will do our best to accommodate our volunteers with special needs or limited mobility. Please be advised that you may be asked to work up to 3 hours at a time.

 

Can I submit my band/act for consideration?

No. Thank you for your interest but we are not currently accepting submissions for the festival.
